Cat Case Presentations

Shelby Neely, BM, MA, VMD

When writing Cat Case Presentations, I feel like I'm writing a "Law and Order" script rather than medical articles. That's because I have to say the following:

Cat Case Presentations contains true cases that I have seen in my feline hospital over the last 18 years. The stories are basically unchanged, however names of owners and cats and vets and hospitals have been changed. Also, any resemblance of any story to an experience of your own is undoubtedly coincidence because each case I present has happened multiple times with different cats and owners. This is to assure my readers and clients that I am not judging anyone, blaming anyone, or lecturing anyone who may have found themselves in a similar situation. These cases are presented to HELP owners and especially the cats to whom my veterinary oath directs me to make my first consideration.

There are many things about cats and their care that still is not common knowledge. There are many things about veterinary care that veterinarians don't all know. No one is perfect. No one knows everything. No two cat owners have had the very same experiences with their cats nor have the same level of knowledge about cats or have the same level of veterinary care.

For this reason, I want to share some of my most frustrating, but helpful, cases with you. If even one of you saves your cat from pain and suffering or an early death as a result of something you read here, then these stories have not been told in vain and some good has come of the mistakes of others and the suffering of their kitties. That is my only goal in sharing these with you. Not to criticize; only to serve those I have promised to serve.

This is really starting to sound like "Law and Order" so let's stop already with the seriousness and move on to an actual case presentation and have some fun learning.
