Cat behaving irregularly

by Kerry Childs
(Lincs)

My cat keeps licking her back end, anal area I think, and rolling over on her back. She took a fall off the sofa, nothing especially out of the ordinary (not sure if this is the cause or not) but afterward she seemed to struggle walking. Was about to call a vet out but she seemed to recover, and slowly regained her footing and seemed fine. She seems fine one minute, running and jumping with ease, then the next she's got no energy and may be in a little pain, but more like she's really uncomfortable, crouching down and rolling over loads? She keeps crying?

We have recently moved also, could it be stress? Worms? Fleas? Because I'm quite certain she hasn't broken anything. Please help.

Dear Kerry,

Thank you for writing in with concern for your kitty. Her symptoms could indicate a number of different conditions, including worms, fleas, impacted anal sacs, or a urinary tract infection, to name a few. It's not likely that these symptoms are being caused by the stress of the move, but it is hard to say without seeing your cat for an exam. Please bring your kitty to a veterinarian. A physical exam will be the only way to determine what is causing these symptoms for your kitty.

All the best,
Dr. Neely
