Cat gagging
Hello
I have a 9 year old Siamese/Ragdoll cross. My cat is of a normal weight and is a quite active indoor/outdoor cat.
For the past few months, every time my cat smells food, she automatically gags, but then proceeds to eat it and enjoy it WITHOUT vomiting afterwards. She has also be licking her lips a lot. Her appetite is normal and she eats very high quality cat food, and is offered a lot of human food too, including meat, fish, etc.
Should I be worried? Is gagging a sign of a more serious illness?
While cat gagging may be nothing, it could be a sign of any number of medical conditions. I would strongly recommend bringing your cat to a veterinarian for an exam, especially of your kitty's mouth, teeth, tongue, and throat. The peace of mind that comes with a thorough exam will be worthwhile, and could catch problems such as dental disease, growths on the throat or tongue, or other feline illness problems that could be causing her symptoms.
