Cat Health for Peanut

QUESTION

I have a male 3 year old that all of a sudden he seems to have fairly rapid breathing, that has lasted all day. He has eaten a little, but is not very active. Any ideas?

Hi, Mike,

Absolutely, any cat with a breathing abnormality needs to see the vet right away. Young male cats in particular are prone to a type of heart disease that needs to be diagnosed as soon as possible and treated.

When a cat is having difficulty breathing, they will not eat much or eat at all. All of their effort and concentration is on breathing.

Even if his breathing is normal by the time you read this, you still should take him for a check-up. Breathing abnormalities of any kind in a cat should always be assessed by a vet.

I really hope it turns out to be nothing or something very minor, but I really want you to have this checked out.

Thank you, Dr. Neely
