Cat Joint Health

I have to keep the cat food up out of reach of the dog (about 36 inches off the kitchen floor). Will this leaping up and down over the years cause my cats harm?

In my opinion, since all cats jump and leap up and down their whole lives, this really shouldn't do your cats any harm. My 13-14 year old cats jump on and off tables, into windows, and on and off beds and sofas all of the time.

If you are really concerned, you may want to look into finding some cat stair cases that your dog won't climb to ease the amount of jumping your kitties have to do every day. But otherwise, I wouldn't be too concerned about your cat feeding arrangement.

Best wishes,
Dr. Neely
