Cat Lost Claw
QUESTIONOne night, about 10 days ago, my cat, Rusty, came back with his rear claws worn down almost completely and one claw broken off at the base. While his is not limping or favoring it noticeably, whenever i try to inspect, he acts as if it is very painful. the broken claw also has a very bad smell. he spends time grooming the foot but i'm not sure if its getting better or not. also, it bleeds a little bit if he gets real active playing. i am concerned about infection and the amount of pain he might be in. he is otherwise acting normal, playful with good apetite.
Thank you,
David
Hi, David,If you told me everything you just did minus the smell, I would say "don't worry, he'll heal on his own". However, the smell means it's time to go to the vet so he can be examined and treated for a possible infection. Please don't wait.
While most lost cat claws amount to no big deal, redness, swelling, or odor from the area all points to a potential infection.
