Cat Not Eating or Drinking

I have a cat about a year old. She has been fine up until yesterday morning. She is an inside/outside cat. She will not drink or eat anything. She stayed in last night and did go out today for about 30 minutes. I have picked her up and she does not seem to be hurt anywhere. I did force feed her some water, but she will not eat or drink on her own. Can you help?

Thank you for writing in. While I wish I could help over the internet, without seeing your cat in person, I can't provide you or her the help she desperately needs.

There are too many possible causes for your cat's lack of appetite. She could have a virus, parasite, foreign body, or an abscess, to name a few. I strongly recommend that you bring her to a veterinarian for an examination as soon as possible.

Cats are very small and can become dehydrated very quickly. A number of conditions that can cause such a drastic shift in eating and drinking behaviors can cause kidney and liver problems if left untreated.

Please take your precious kitty to a veterinarian as soon as you can. It is always better to be safe than sorry.

Kindest regards,
Dr. Neely
