Cat pregnancy question: Is everything ok?

My Cat seems to have been showing her pregnancy for a good 2 or 3 weeks. Her belly is hanging down a lot, but she is losing weight around the rest of her body although there is food and water out for her at all times. Also, I can't see any movement within her when I watch. I have noticed a diminished appetite also. Should I worry? She has always been a very quiet shy cat, which hasn’t changed. She is 1 year old. She is an indoor cat and I struggled to believe she was pregnant at all until my son admitted to letting her out for an hour.

It is possible that your cat is not pregnant.
There are other causes of swollen cat abdomens, especially since you sound concerned about the size of the rest of her body and her diminished appetite.

If a cat is pregnant, you would expect her to have an increased appetite unless it is a day or so within her time to deliver. Also, just because you don't see movement doesn't mean she isn't pregnant or that there is a problem with a cat pregnancy. Quite often, it is difficult to see movement or feel movement in a pregnant cat's abdomen unless you are very trained.

I would have to suggest a visit to the veterinarian to make sure everything is okay with your kitty and to see if she is indeed pregnant. And, you are invited to read my page on Pregnant Cat Symptoms for more information about cat pregnancy.

Kindest Regards,
Dr. Neely
