Cat Skin Problems

My cat has developed dark brown sand-like
crusty spots on his belly

QUESTION

My cat has been fine until now. I have shaved him 2 months ago. And he was fine. It has been nearly 2 months after his shave and he has developed dark brown sand-paper looking particles on his belly. There are a lot of them. He doesnt itch but that picture worries me alot. What is his problem? I wash him every week with a cat shampoo and try to keep him clean as soon as possible.

ANSWER

Your description doesn't ring a bell. That doesn't mean I haven't encountered it before or don't know what it is, but I need more information and a picture would be great. If you're able to do that, I'll certainly re-evaluate. If not, you should take him to the vet to have a look.

This is probably a ridiculous question and I in no way mean to insult you, but it's not just the hair stubble growing back in, is it? Other possibilities include, allergy, ringworm, etc., but again, it's impossible to know without seeing it and getting more information.

I hope to hear back from you.

Thanks,
Dr. Neely
