Cat Vomiting while pregnant

by Mallory
(Pineville,LA)

My cat is about a month away from having kittens, and she has been throwing up a tan colored fluid about once to twice a day for the past two weeks. My pregnant cat eats a cup of food a day, and she drinks a cup of water a day. What can I do for her cat health, or what can I do to minimize these cat vomiting episodes?

Dear Mallory,

Pregnant cats are often more hungry. Your cat may be eating too much too quickly. To reduce the amount your cat vomits, there are a few things you could try. Sometimes, offering canned cat food instead of dry cat food or dry food instead of canned food can help. Also, you may try different brands or types of cat food. Elevating her cat food bowl can help as well by helping your cat eat with her head in a more natural position. Also, if you are only feeding her once or twice, you may need to try splitting the food into smaller portions more frequently.

That said, however, a trip to the veterinarian for your pregnant cat to have a thorough exam would be highly advised, especially considering her cat illness symptoms have been going on for two weeks. Especially with pregnant cat health concerns, it is always wise to bring your feline to a veterinarian for an exam.

Best wishes,
Dr. Neely
