Cat Art seems to have great appeal to almost everyone, even those who don't particularly like cats. Cats have long been the subjects of various art forms, from the Eygptian statues and tomb paintings to modern day fine art prints, cat photography, cat giclee prints, sculptures, jewelry, and so much more. Obviously, there's something about cats that is very pleasing to the eye in a variety of mediums. What is it? The feline physique and spirit has much to do with it. After all, it's difficult to deny that cats are sleek, graceful, aloof, regal and beautiful creatures.
Capturing these qualities with a camera or on video tape, in sketches or paintings is at the same time a challenge and a delight. However, there doesn't seem to be an art form that doesn't resonate well with cats. Even Broadway was held captive by cats through the dance, song, and art of human/cat movements in the long-running, Andrew Lloyd Webber musical CATS.
CATS became the longest running musical in the history of British theater first, then the longest running musical in Broadway history in 1997. In October of 1991, CATS became the longest continuously touring show in American theatre history. CATS has been seen on five continents, in 26 countries, for over eight and a half million audience members, over the last 25 years!
