Cats tail injured
by Cindy
(Berea KY)
My cat, Shorty, got his tail shut in the door. He lost the whole end piece and has exposed bloody bone. I have the fur end of his tail wrapped in a paper towel. Can it be re-attached? The piece is about 2 inches long.
Any help is appreciated.
Dear Cindy,
You need to see a veterinarian immediately. Your cat's tail does not need to be reattached, but the wound needs to be sealed, your cat needs to be on antibiotics, and he needs medical attention to prevent him from chewing on his tail. Cats with tail injuries often chew on the tail and make their injuries worse.
With such a severe cat injury as the one you have described, seeking immediate care from an emergency veterinary hospital is critical. We are not available to be online at all times, and cannot take emergency questions. Even if we could be available at all times, there is nothing that could be done via the internet to treat your cat's wounds.
If you haven't done so already, please run, don't walk, to a veterinarian!
