Cat Illnesses In-Depth

This past Saturday, part 2 of learning how to examine and observe your cat at home became available on-demand on Tails from The Cat Doctor. The feedback about these how-to guides has been wonderful, so if you haven't seen them yet, please take the time to watch. Your kitty will thank you for it, as will your wallet when you're catching illnesses earlier and getting to treat them more cheaply and efficiently.

Tomorrow, Wednesday, June 5, on Ask The Cat Doctor Talk Radio, we dive in to the topic of a very specific cat illness that tends to plague young, innocent kittens. It's a heart-breaking and devastating disease known as feline infectious peritonitis, or FIP, and it is almost always fatal. With no known cure and no prevention, the battle against this cat virus is a heavy one, but one that we want to tackle head-on.

Wednesday at 8 pm (EST), please join us and Steve Dale from the Winn Feline Foundation for an important awareness-raising broadcast of Ask The Cat Doctor Talk Radio. We will talk about signs and symptoms, causes and theories, and research that is being done to hopefully find the cure to this devastating disease.

Last week on Tails from The Cat Doctor, we taught you how to examine your cat at home externally, looking at everything from their eyes and ears to toes and tail! Tonight, though, we show you how to see if everything is working well internally, by watching simple things like appetite, drinking, litter box habits, and behavior. This episode is another must-see for all cat parents so you will know the signs to look for! It will be available tonight on-demand on eWave tv.

We also have an exciting radio show guest coming up this week. Steve Dale, the pet expert, co-founder of the CATalyst Counsel, Winn Feline Foundation representative, radio and tv personality, joins us for an important discussion about a heart-breaking, but not well-known disease, called Feline FIP that often afflicts young kittens. It's a discussion you won't want to miss this Wednesday at 8 pm on Blog Talk Radio.

We hope you'll join us as we continue to share as much information about keeping your cats healthy as we can!

Is your cat normal?

Our newest episode of Tails from The Cat Doctor will be available Saturday, May 25 at 7:30 (EST) and is one you don't want to miss! In this episode, we do things a little differently and instead of going on a house call, we teach you how to conduct your own brief "exam" on your cat at home. Learning what's normal and what's not normal will help you determine when your cat is in need of a vet visit, which means you can catch serious illnesses and other problems much earlier, making it possible for you to treat things more quickly, more inexpensively, and more efficiently.

Do you know what healthy cat eyes look like? Do you know how your cat's ears should look? How about his mouth and his tail? What about his feet and toes and nails? In this special how-to episode, we'll walk you through the simple things to look for to determine whether your cat is healthy or not and help you identify small changes as soon as they happen, instead of waiting until they are far advanced and indicate a possible bigger medical problem.

Starring Dr. Neely's own cat, Snowball, this is an episode every cat owner must see! If you've read our article about Cat Illness Symptoms, you're sure to love this episode that walks you through each step to make you the best advocate for your cat's health!

Must-See and Must-Hear Cat Information

We have two bits of news today that we wanted to share about some must-see and must-hear cat health information.

First, our radio show from this past Wednesday was all about preventing and reversing litter box problems, which many of you have or want to avoid! If you didn't have the chance to hear the show, you can listen to the podcast here. It's information that every cat owner needs to hear, and in lieu of no live radio show on Sunday, May 5th, listening to this episode is the next best thing!

We also wanted to invite you to join us for part 2 of Maggie's Misdiagnosis on our Tails from The Cat Doctor reality video series, which is a story of a diabetic cat who was sadly misdiagnosed with a fibrosarcoma. The second episode airs this Saturday, May 4th at 7:30 p.m. (EST). In the second part of her story, we race to save her from her untreated diabetes before it is too late, if it isn't already. As you have seen in the first episode, because of her diagnosis of this fatal cancer, Maggie's mom left her diabetes untreated for months, but when we arrived and found that her "cancer" was nothing more than a benign fatty tumor, the plan changed, and our fears of having to euthanize a cat with cancer quickly shifted to fears of losing her to her diabetes.

Both episodes are sure to shed some light about the importance of getting second opinions whenever your cat has a serious diagnosis. If you haven't had a chance to watch part one, be sure to check it out before part 2 airs this Saturday. It's available on-demand on our Episodes page!
