CATS CLAWS

Custom Search

Cats Claws are frequently the topic of discussion when talking about cats. A perfectly normal part of a cat's body, for many cat owners, cats claws keep them from living with a cat, are the cause of marital disagreements, irritate owners who have to periodically replace expensive furniture, and more.

SOFT CLAWS

I have to admit I was a skeptic when these first came onto the market many years ago. However, I have since seen many wonderful cats sharing the homes of their loving owners who could not keep their cat(s) if they didn't do something about the cats claws. These owners have chosen Soft Claws over a declawing procedure and that alone makes the nail caps very worthwhile.

The caps remain on the cat's claws longer than I ever expected in many cases, the cats tolerate them very well, and I have to admit they are even cute. They are sold in several different colors, but you can also get clear ones.

They are usually sold as a kit that contains enough nail caps of various sizes for 3-4 applications. The kit the caps, applicator tips, the "glue" that holds them on, and instructions. Once in place, your kitty can still extend and retract his nails - he just can't do any damage with them.

The temperament of your cat will determine whether you can easily apply them yourself or with help from a friend or family member. Some of my clients have come to us for the application or to a local groomer.

Soft Claws, also known as Soft Paws, are definitely on my list of ways to avoid declawing.

Of course, every cat should have at least one scratching post to use. It doesn't have to be expensive. It can be simple or it can stretch from the floor to the ceiling, whichever you like. Sisal or carpet are materials of choice. Most cats like to stretch up to scratch, but some like to stretch to stretch out. There are some adjustable scratching posts made that will allow for both.

Claw Scissors for Cats

Keeping your cat's nails trimmed on a regular basis can certainly help spare your furniture and your skin. But only if your kitty allows it! There are some cats that absolutely will not let you trim their nails. The time to begin is when they are young kittens. Establish a regular routine at that time and you may be able to do it for life. There are many different types of scissors you can buy for clipping your cat's nails. Just be sure you don't cut where it's pink or it will bleed and HURT and you may never get the chance again!
