Change in Cat urination habits

My 11 year old female cat has just decided to stop urinating in her little box has started urinating on my bathroom floor. However, she still uses her litter box for "number two." Why, and what can I do about it? I have a Littermaid and it is always clean. I clean out the holding trap at least twice a week, so it's always clean for her.

Hi,

When this happens, the first thing to do always is to have her urine analyzed. You have to make sure it is not a medical issue before you assume it is behavioral and we address that.

After you've seen the vet, if there is no problem with her urine, there's lots of information here on the website about treating behavioral-related inappropriate urination.

Good luck and thank you for writing,
Dr. Neely
