Excessive Salivation In A Cat

by a reader

QUESTION

My cat lives outdoors. Kinda of a stray i let hang around. She's so sweet, i couldn't turn her away. Lately, it seems like her appetite is off and her mouth is always wet. What could it be??

ANSWER

It sounds most like tooth or gum disease. She needs a thorough exam of her mouth by a vet.

Of course, there are many things it could be, from a virus to congestive heart disease to a toxic reaction to something. There is no way I can give you a definite answer without examining her. Please make an appointment with your vet right away.
