Frozen Cat Ear Medication

by Nicole
(London KY US)

My mom decided re-do her floors (yesterday) and we lost my cat Sophie's ear medicine. When we found it (just a few minutes ago), it was in the freezer. Will it hurt the medicine?

Dear Nicole,

Without knowing what the cat medication is, I cannot answer the question of whether or not the medication was damaged by being frozen. In general, feline medications need to be stored as directed on the packaging. Freezing is likely to change the effectiveness of the medication, but only a pharmacist or your veterinarian will be able to advise you about your particular medication. Please contact the prescribing veterinarian or a pharmacist with the name of the medication for advice.

Best wishes,
Dr. Neely
