Kitten with swollen groin area

by Kim
(West Virginia)

I am hand raising a kitten. She is approx. 5-6 days old. Things were going good until I noticed this evening that the inside of her right leg near her groin area was swollen. In just a few short hours it seems to have spread and that her whole groin area is swollen. Also I have noticed a sudden decrease in her appetite.

Dear Kim,

Any time there is a sudden decrease in a cat’s appetite, especially in a kitten so young, it is time to make an emergency trip to a veterinarian. The sudden swelling could also indicate any number of cat health problems, including intestinal obstructions, infection, or parasites.

Please bring your kitten to a veterinarian as soon as possible!

Regards,
Dr. Neely
