Male cat urinary problem

by Mehrdad
(Shiraz)

My male cat is restless. Although he urinated, he goes to his box and digs a hole and sits for peeing but he doesn't do anything and does this again and again. He drinks and eats well. What’s the problem?

Thanks a lot.

Dear Mehrdad,

Please take your cat to a veterinarian as soon as possible. Any time a cat is struggling to urinate or not urinating at all, an obstruction or urinary tract infection is the most likely cause. Your description of your cat's symptoms seems to indicate a urinary obstruction, which can be extremely dangerous if not treated immediately. Obstructions and blockages are most common in male cats, so your little boy needs to be examined as soon as possible.

All the best,
Dr. Neely
