Missing their brother

Grendel and Pink have had a rough time this year... They lost their four-year-old brother Fafnir to intestinal cancer the day after Thanksgiving. :(

Grendel spent the last year having her routine messed up as we tried many different treatments for Faf, and despite being a little territorial, she has taken the kitten Pink under her wing like a champ.

Pink and Faf used to groom each other and cuddle, so Pink would be really lonely without Grendel to play with. Grendel has gone out of her way to find games she could play with Pink without intimidating her (since she's a giant, 12lb female and Pink was a tiny 2.5lbs when we first adopted her!). She batted paws with her under door jams, played peek-a-boo around the cat tree, etc. Now Pink is so un-intimidated that they chase and wrestle.

I think Grendel really deserves a gold star for helping all of us, both kitten and humans, deal with the loss of our awesome friend Fafnir.
