MY CAT IS DESTRUCTIVE

by KARA
(HAMPSHIRE, ENGLAND)

Hi

I have 2 cats, 1 abyssinian Male called Orion and 1 Ocicat female called Athena. Both my cats have been neutered and are indoor cats. Just recently my female cat Athena has started urinating in various places in the house even though she is litter trained. Also she has started to break things and steal lids of teapots, sugar caddys etc. I tell her off but think that this is doing more harm than good as Athena knows when she has been naughty as she becomes subdued, but I dont think she knows what she has done to be told off. Athena is half abyssinian and half siamese. I have never owned a Siamese cat but have been told that they can be naughty. Is Athena just displaying typical siamese cat behaviour? What can be done about this. Both myself and my husband love our cats but we are concerned about Athena urinating and being destuctive. She also tears up carrier bags no matter what is inside.

Hope you can help me.

Thank you

Kara

Hi,

I received this after receiving the other letter from you.
I just wanted to add that she should have her urine analyzed at the vet to see if there is a medical reason for her inappropriate urination. That is absolutely the first step towards solving the urination problem.

Thank you again!
Dr. Neely
