My cat is sick!
by Fabiola
(Chicago IL)
I have a 3 year old cat and he's been sick for about 3 days already. He hasn't eaten or drank anything. He poops and pees, but that's about it, and his poop is not normal.
I just came from the vet today and they told me he has a fever and gave me feline medicine. I don't want my cat to die! I need help fast!
Dear Fabiola,
There must be some reason you don't trust your veterinarian. The fact that you are writing in after bringing your cat to the vet is not a good sign.
Fevers are often the result of a virus that will run it's course, however, there are other possibilities. If all your veterinarian did was give antibiotics, I may be concerned as well. Fevers often need to be treated with subcutaneous fluids and antibiotics, and in a cat that hasn't eaten or been drinking, hospitalization and appetite stimulants may be necessary as well.
The bottom line is that it doesn't sound as though you trust your vet, and I would strongly recommend bringing your cat to another vet for a second opinion.
