My cat Just got spayed and wont move from under the couch

by Josh
(Simi Valley, CA)

Hello Doc,
My cat, Xica, just got spayed about 10 hrs ago and since we've been back she hasn't moved from underneath the couch. Is this type of behavior normal?

Dear Josh,

It could be normal for your cat to be hiding out of fear. I would recommend doing what you can to get her out from under the couch and confine her to a small room in your home where you can easily keep an eye on her appetite, drinking, litter box behavior, and check her incision. If you are still concerned, please call the veterinarian who performed your cat's surgery.

Best wishes,
Dr. Neely

Under couch
by: Anonymous

I've collected several cats still so woozy they can't stand properly.
More than one has retreated to a place they feel safe for a good few hours, to half a day.
Provide water, monitor her.
Reaction could be stress from experience, pain - if pain relief not working or adequate.
It could just be her dealing with it, but equally it's possible that it could be a sign something is wrong.
Keep close eye, and call vet or take her back if no improvement soon.
