My Cat's Severed Leg - A Severe Cat Injury

by Linda

I have a very serious cat injury on my hands. My one month old kitten got his leg cut off. I didn't take him to the vet. I don't have the money, so I am taking care of him.

He plays and doesn't act as if there is anything wrong with him. I have washed it and then I put some sterile water on it and some Hydrogen peroxide on and covered it up for two days. Should I keep it covered or should I uncover it?

Please let me know.
Linda

Dear Linda,

I cannot advise you about such a severe cat injury. Your cat needs IMMEDIATE veterinary attention for such a serious injury.

If you cannot afford a veterinarian, please bring your cat to a humane society or SPCA. He needs immediate care, and there are veterinarians on staff at these facilities. Although you may need to surrender your kitten, being financially responsible is part of being a cat owner, and when that is not possible, it is not fair to allow the cat to suffer.

Regards,
Dr. Neely
