Pregnant Cat Giving Birth

My cat's water broke. How long will it be until the second stage?

Sarah

Dear Sarah,

It happens so quickly that most owners don't even know their cat's "water broke". I suspect by the time you are reading this, she has had her kittens. Cats generally take care of everything themselves and give birth as if it were a stroll in the park!

Enjoy the new kittens, Dr. Neely

cat pregnant...bloody discharge?
by: Anonymous

My cat appears to be around 2 months pregnant and her nipples have already changed to large and pink. She appears to be nesting for the past 48 hours and has started to have a few drops of mucus-light bleeding. Today, she has just increased discharge to a drop or two every 10-15 minutes. Is this normal? Or, does she need a vet immediately due to bleeding?

If she hasn't delivered by now, please see your vet.
