Pregnant Cat

by kris ramos
(philippines)

My cat seems to be about to give birth anytime this very hour. She is very quiet, not eating, always lying on sofa the whole day. Her kittens inside her womb are moving hard and fast. I'm afraid my cat will die in giving birth and am thinking that the kittens might be overdue already. Are those symptoms normal? Please reply soon, thanks!

ANSWER

I'm sorry I didn't get your letter until just now, but I hope everything is fine. Those are normal symptoms. Cats most often become quiet and lose their appetite before giving birth. They also find one place where it is fairly quiet and comfortable to have their kittens.

If you have any further questions, please write back. Hope all is well,
Dr. Neely

Cat Making Rasping Noise
by: kerry

Hi

i have 6 cats and at the moment two of them are making rasping like noises ...Is this something i should be concerned about or is this nromal i am getting quite worried at the moment thanks

kerry

Hi, Kerry,

It's difficult for me to know exactly what you're hearing, but if they haven't done it before and it's a new sound, then you should probably be concerned. Generally, the only sounds cats make are "meow's" and purring and occasionally, a cat will "snore" when it is sleeping. Again, if you have had the cats for awhile and this is a new sound, then absolutely see the vet.

Thank you, Dr. Neely
