Scabby Skin Next To
Corner of Cat's Eye

by Stacey
(Crawley, West Sussex)

Hi there,

I have noticed that my cat has a very horrible scab in the corner of her eye - nearest to her nose.

Can you advise if there is anything that i can get to treat her scab - It is about the size of a 5 pence piece. I have tried bathing it in warm water and drying if off after wards. But it still is coming back. She may well have scratched it and its got infected.

Any advise would be much appreciated.

Thanks

Stacey

Hi, Stacey,

If by washing it, you are rubbing the scab off, you need to stop and let the scab fall off when it is ready.

Otherwise, if it is red and irritated and not scabbed over or completely covered with a scab, you can apply the same antibiotic ointment that you buy in a pharmacy for yourself for skin wounds. Apply it a couple of times daily for a few days and see if that makes a difference. Be careful not to get it in her eye.

However, again, if the scab is not given time to allow the skin underneath to completely heal and the scab drop off naturally, it will continue to remain red and irritated.

Thank you for writing. Dr. Neely
