How I Ended Up as a Veterinarian AND My Experience with Site Building

However, there’s an important part of my life that I don’t talk about there. It involves the events that led to my building this website and I’d like to share that story with you.
I’ve been a practicing feline veterinarian for 20 years. Several years ago, it became clear to most of us in the veterinary community that a hospital website was becoming an essential part of a veterinary practice.
At that time, I knew absolutely nothing about building a website, but fortunately there was a company that specialized in providing “pre-built” websites for veterinarians. The website was fairly attractive and allowed for a little personalization with pictures of my staff and our mascots so I was satisfied.
During that time period, life was good. I had a thriving practice, three wonderful children and a husband I adored.
The saddest part of my life was the fact that my Mom lived in another state, 9 hours away, and I couldn’t see her nearly as much as I would have liked.
However, business was good and our finances solid so I was able to hire another vet to work for me and take time off periodically to visit my Mom and take her and the kids on some great vacations.
Then my life changed drastically. My husband told me he was moving out, not only out of our home, but also out of my veterinary practice where he had been the practice manager for quite some time.
Words cannot describe the shock, the pain, the depression, the sense of betrayal, and the tremendous anxiety that overcame me.
My office manager started to help me sort through the finances and other paperwork aspects of the practice that my husband had left behind and that I knew nothing about. However, just when I thought matters could not get worse, the office manager quit and it soon became apparent why she left - to be with my husband!
To make a long story short - working more than full-time, supporting 3 children, one of whom was a toddler, managing a home and trying to manage my emotions made life difficult for quite some time.
The practice was larger than I could manage alone, there were debts I hadn’t known about, and I was quite overwhelmed. It became clear to me that I needed to downsize the practice and our home. Staying afloat financially became increasingly difficult and finding time to do anything but work became impossible.
The impossible dream? I started looking for additional ways to generate income, but hoped for a way to also have some free time again in my life so I could visit my Mom, who was getting older and had several health problems.
My oldest son told me about some friends who had websites and generated income from the advertising on their sites. I got excited. What could be better than writing about cats, reaching out to help more cat owners all over the world, and, at the same generating some money to help with the bills at the same time?!
I began by adding some advertisements to my existing hospital website, but soon found out that the site just didn’t have the flexibility I needed to personalize it and add as much valuable cat information as I wanted to.
I therefore set out on what was to be a long, frustrating journey to find the best way to make money on the internet and build a successful website.
I wish I could say that I found the answer to my prayers right away, but unfortunately, two years and many scams later, I was close to giving up. I had lost more money than I had made and had pretty much concluded that making money on the internet was one big fairy tale ...then an amazing, life-changing thing happened. I discovered SBI. SBI (Site Build It!) helps you build a website, but is really much more than that. It’s a business builder. It helps you turn any topic you are interested in – a hobby, a skill, a passion – into a successful online business.
“Build a website”? you ask.
I had the same thought. I didn’t know the first thing about programming. How could I build a website?
The answer? SBI!
Right now, you are looking at a website I built all by myself and guess what? I have 5 other websites I have built!
And what’s more amazing is that within a year of building the first website/business, I was making enough money to pay the yearly fee for it AND for 5 other sites! All because of SBI!
Was it easy? Yes and No.
It takes time, commitment, motivation, and hard work to build a successful and profitable website.
But that's really all it takes and really all you need.
(1) You don't need programming skills or any experience with web design. (2) You don't need to have exceptional writing skills. (3) You don't need any previous knowledge about computers or websites or anything technological. (4) You don’t need to have a degree in business or product(s) to sell.
If you bring your own thoughts, ideas and motivation to SBI, SBI has all the tools and all the training steps to help you do the rest.
Initially, I had a lot to learn, but everything was right there for me in the SBI action guide. It guided me through the whole process. Anyone with even average intelligence who is willing to learn and put some work and effort into this can do this, regardless of their background. So, in that respect, the answer is "yes", building a successful website really is that easy.
Another great feature of SBI is the help it offers if you don't know what topic you should use for your business. I knew from the start that the topic for my first site would be cats, but if I didn't, SBI had all the tools to help me decide. They also showed me how to get traffic to my website and how to start making money from it.
If you're interested in learning more about how I did this, have a look at the Video Tour.
There are hundreds of SBI websites, built by average people just like you and me, have been successful.
SBI doesn’t just help you build a website. It helps you build a SUCCESSFUL website. Askthecatdoctor.com is in the top 1% of all the sites on the entire world wide web, as are all of the sites in the previous link. And I got there, by myself, with the help of SBI.
Now, I get to write about what I love and help people all over the world. I have visitors from over 133 countries during an average month. Approximately 30,000 visitors a month read information on my cat website, and every month that number increases.
I’m not going to deceive you like I was deceived by so many people before I found SBI. Yes, in the beginning, there is a lot to learn and a lot of work to do. But you can go at your own pace and it never feels like work! It’s fun when you’re learning how to do something you love.
I’m also not going to tell you that you will get rich overnight. Unfortunately, I fell for that line more than once with other companies and I don’t want that to happen to anyone else. The concept of getting rich overnight on the web is definitely a myth.
A common question people ask me about building an online business is “How do you make money with a website?”
There are tons of ways to make money with a website: you can write your own eBook or create an online course, earn commissions for selling other people’s products, earn referral fees, sell products, get paid for advertisements on your site …the list goes on and on. SBI shows you doing these things and much more.
If you're interested in knowing more about that, you can see what other SBIers are doing through these case studies, which also give you an idea of the numerous, seemingly endless numbers of topics that people have turned into successful websites using SBI.
One of the main reasons I share my story is that I hear so many people these days saying how they wish they could escape their boring 9 to 5 or work from home or have more free time or establish more income for their retirement or travel more or …………..
Well, they can! If they use SBI!
When I was thinking of switching careers from Music to Veterinary Medicine, I said to my Mom "If I go back to school and do the science requirements and then go to Vet School, by the time I get out of school I will be 34.” My wise Mother said “In 1991, you will be 34. You can be 34 and be a veterinarian or you can be 34 and wish you were a veterinarian.”
I say the same to you. “In a year or two or three (depending on how much time you have to put into it), you can have a successful online business or you can still be wishing you had a successful online business. The time will pass regardless.”
