skin problem in my cat

by carrie
(northville,ny)

My cat licks her back and hind quarters excessively and sometimes has trouble maintaining her balance. She licks herself to the point of being raw. I have put hydro-cortisone cream on her which seems to help it for some time. The other cats in the house lick themselves in the same area and have also lost some fur, but neither of them are as red and raw as Fang. Do you know what is wrong with my cat?

Dear Carrie,

Thank you for writing in with concern for your kitty.

Especially considering the fact that there are other cats in the household suffering from the same itchiness, even though it seems to be to a lesser degree, it sounds as though your cat has a flea allergy.
