Smelly bottom with gooey stuff

I found my cat outside trying to climb in a drain hose. When I went to get her, I looked at her and she was all messy in her vaginal area. The gooey stuff has got a funny smell. What could this be from?

Have you washed your cat off to see if this is something topical that may have ended up on your cat's fur when she was in the drain?

If you tried to wash your cat and she is still presenting with a smelly vaginal discharge, I would be extremely concerned that your cat may have a uterine infection, which can be fatal. Other possible medical causes for your cat's symptoms include impacted anal sacs, an anal sac rupture, or diarrhea to name a few, and without a physical exam, there is no way to say for certain.

If your cat has something from the drain stuck on her fur that was causing this odor, seeking veterinary advice would be advised as well. It is hard to say what the substance may be, considering that your kitty was in a drain, and many things can be toxic to cats.

Please bring your cat to a veterinarian for an exam as soon as possible.
