Urinary Problems: Blood In Urine of Kitten

Why would a cat of 3 months have blood in its urine?

Hi, Lisa,

A cat can develop a urinary tract infection at any age or it could be related to the reproductive organs. Sometimes a drop of blood from being in heat will mix in with the urine and make it appear to be urinary in origin, especially if you have a female cat.

Blood could also come from the stool or from trauma anywhere near the urogenital opening and appear to be blood in the urine when it's actually coming from somewhere else.

The best thing to do would be to have a vet analyze a urine sample as well as a fecal sample.

Thanks for writing,
Dr. Neely
