VINTAGE CAT ART

The word "vintage" in "vintage cat art" is a generic term for new or second-hand items originating from a previous era.

One of the best known artists was Théophile Alexandre Steinlen, born November 10, 1859 - died December 13, 1923. He was born in Switzerland and was a French Art Nouveau painter and printmaker. Steinlen studied at the University, worked as a designer apprentice at a textile mill in France, and while still in his early twenties, he moved to the artistic community in the Montmartre Quarter of Paris. The painter Adolphe Willette introduced Steinlen to the artistic crowd at Le Chat Noir. He was commissioned by the cabaret owner/entertainer Aristide Bruant and other comercial enterprises to do poster art.
