What Can I Do To Help My Cat?

by Kenneth Wu
(Ontario)

QUESTION

My Persian cat Angus is 14 Years old and used to be very healthy. But for the past 10 days, he has not been eating anything but drinking a lot more water than usual. A recent strange behaviour is that my cat always waits by the patio door for it to open so he can lick the concrete slab step. My parents cannot afford to see a vet. What can i do to help him besides the vet? He is still able to move and play but we are worried about his body. It is very skinny and become all bone. How could i help to make him eat again?

Dear Kennth,

The only thing that can help him is a veterinarian visit. Licking the concrete is a sign of anemia, and not eating for even a couple of days means something is really wrong. Kidney failure is a definite possibility although there are many other things. He must go to the vet or I am afraid you will lose him.
