My cat has hair loss on the outside of my cats ear. It was is oozing pus, and when we rubbed it off, the cat hair came off with it. There is a patch of raw skin underneath. What could be the cause of this?
Dear Summer,
Your cat needs to be seen and examined by a veterinarian.
Generally, pus coming from anywhere on a cat means that there is an infection. It is difficult to see from your photo, but any number of things could have caused the pus and subsequent cat hair loss. If your cat goes outside, the pus could be coming from an abscess, or, regardless of indoor or outdoor, your cat could have scratched the ear and developed an infection in an open wound.
Please bring your cat to a veterinarian for an exam and any needed treatment.
All the best,
Dr. Neely
