Cats and Their Tongues
What does it mean when my cat has her tongue sticking out of her mouth just a little?
It could be nothing (just her habit), a little difficulty breathing, dental disease, misalignment of her teeth, jaw tumor, tongue tumor, any tumor of the mouth ...those are the most common reasons. I don't know her age or how long this has been going on so I would not be able to narrow it down more than that.
If you would like to write back with more information about her history and this condition, I would be happy to give you a better idea if I can.
Thank you for writing,
Bad Breath in Cats
My cat has very smelly breath and he only eats small amounts of food. Is he ok?
He most likely is not ok. Bad breath and decreased appetite are suspicious for (1)bad teeth. (2) Diabetic cats also have different smelling breath. Cats with (3)kidney disease will have foul breath as well. Any of these scenarios requires an immediate visit to the vet. Please make an appointment right away.
Best to you and your kitty,
Excessive Salivation In A Cat
My cat lives outdoors. She's a stray I let hang around. She's so sweet, I couldn't turn her away. Lately, it seems like her appetite is off and her mouth is always wet. What could it be??
There are many things it could be, from a virus to congestive heart disease ... to a toxic reaction to something ... to tooth or gum disease. There is no way I can give you a definite answer without examining her. Please make an appointment with your vet right away.
