QUESTION:
In the last few days, my female 7-year-old cat Janie has had a greenish, thick discharge. Not sure but think it is vaginal. She never goes outside and seems to be "growling" a lot when my other cat comes near her. There are quarter sized spots EVERYWHERE in the house she has been for longer than a minute. It is yellow-green.
Thank you.
ANSWER:
That could be very serious, especially if it is coming from her vagina. Yellow/green mucous from anywhere indicates infection and should be treated by a veterinarian. If it is indeed coming from her vagina, it could be life-threatening. If she has not been spayed and is having this discharge, she could have a uterine infection which, again, can threaten her life.
Please see a veterinarian right away.
Best,
Dr. Neely
