We found a kitten that looks to be about a month old. The kitten has a swollen anus and the area is crusty. Is there anything that we can do at home for it?
You could use a soft cloth moistened with warm water and gently try to moisten and clean the "crusty" area for this kitten to see if this helps.
However, very young kittens can have parasites and develop constipation, which, if left untreated, could lead to prolapsed rectum. Without seeing this kitten in person, I would have no way of knowing if this is what you are seeing or if this is just swelling and irritation. Because a prolapsed rectum can be fatal, it would be wise to bring your kitten to a veterinarian as soon as possible.
All the best,
Dr. Neely
